THE LOGO LAB

Ground Plates Ink

Eight directions, each pulled from one of the images you sent. Change the ground and the plate count under all of them at once — a mark that only survives on cream in two colours is not a mark, it is a picture. The three small ones under each note are 64, 32 and 16 px: that row is where most of these die.

The Seal Heraldic · from the rat-king phenomenon itself

Five rats radial, tails knotted at the centre with a real over/under interlace. The one that already exists. Best as an authority mark — a stamp on the back cover, a membership seal.

Safety Match From the Dragon and Tiger matchbox labels
RATKING SAFETY MATCH · № 07 IMPREGNATED

A leaping rat in a ruled frame with corner stars and text top and bottom. Cheap two-colour offset, meant to be misregistered. The most product-like: this is the one that goes on an actual box.

The Brush From the boxing possum and the cowboy frog

One loose inked animal, one spot colour used exactly once — here a crown. Scrappiest and warmest of the eight, and the only one with a sense of humour. Works as a sticker at two inches.

Commemorative From the 1962 Korean malaria stamp
RATKING ORDER OF THE RAT 07 VERMIN NUMBER 1962 · 4 · 7 POSTAGE

Flat modernist geometry, a value block, a perforated edge. The most institutional: it makes the rat an official subject of a state that took the trouble to issue it.

The Icon From the saint painted on the fighter jet
Ο ΑΓΙΟϹ ΒΕΡΜΙΝ

A haloed rat head, frontal and unsmiling, with the titulus in Greek. This is the thesis in one mark — the lowest thing given the highest treatment — but it is heavy and should be rationed.

Blast From the comic starburst
RATKING

Wordmark inside a double starburst. Loud, dumb, legible at any size, and the only one that reads instantly as a masthead rather than a crest.

Contact 0447 From the radar scope and the contour map
CONTACT 0447

A rat drawn as three contour rings on a display, with a blip for the eye. The most cryptic — nobody gets it at first glance, which for a cult is arguably the point.

The Knot The seal, stripped

The five tails alone, no bodies. Reads as a rosette at 200px and as a smudge at 16px, so it is the favicon and nothing else.
